Always like your posts sheepman :D

To answer your question about a new site.. yes I am doing a new one now.. will be a wordpress site, with plugins for things like shoutbox and new forum.. I'll do a custom theme maybe something similar maybe a little different...  it will look different in layout for sure but think it might be whats needed to start kz with something fresh.. and this one won't go away it just won't be the main site anymore.. I think it will be alright to start with and get better over time as and when other things happen like its own game or maybe in the meantime a server for other games again.

the plan anyway.. thanks for the encouragement, I don't give up on the zone either :)

So took a bit longer to get things back...

New server is using php7 which meant the forum wasn't going to run without an update.. which I had been holding off doing as I knew it would break so many things like plugins..

And it has, so while things mostly work the forum and the various plugins it was setup with before are no longer working properly.

Anyway the news announcement I had made a week ago got lost. Just to reiterate it the current Kraftzone website is going to be moved to a different subdomain and folder... so https://kraftzone.net/forum will become http://kraftzone.net/old   or old.kraftzone.net

This is to make room for a new fresh website.

Anyway it's back :)

Minecraft storymode: the triggering

If I ever release a cough finished' game, I'll be sure to make sure it has no storymode sheepman :D Nothing that is released afterwards as some sort of cash grab on the popularity and parents/relatives who don't know what to buy as a gift but hear the child likes to play x, and they just saw an x: storymode that looks kinda mundane and safe to buy :D

Honestly minecraft storymode I never even had enough interest to see what it was all about.. I figured there were youtubers that made more interesting minecraft adventures to follow for children than any official storymode.

I looked into yesterday.. premium logins with mojang servers are working still, it seems to get a accesstoken fine first time.. but on subsequent tries it gets a 403 forbidden.. I'm thinking this is mojang not accepting multi logins after a short period of time, where official launcher uses some stored session file.. which I don't support in my launcher, might have to fix it properly though.

also found out what was wrong with it not loading up most the jar files compared to the official launcher.. the code wasn't understanding inheritsFrom

in the json file for forge/litemod version like 1.11.2-LiteLoader1.11.2-1.11.2-forge1.11.2-13.20.0.2226.json you will have this line:
"inheritsFrom":"1.11.2-forge1.11.2-13.20.0.2226",

which means it needs to load the file "1.11.2-forge1.11.2-13.20.0.2226.json"  from the other version folder.. this part was working, however in that file it would have a line like "inheritsFrom":"1.11.2",... which is the base original version of minecraft these this modded versions would be using.. and my launcher didn't ever get past loading the library files from the original.. I guess that level of recursion wasn't expected, still I fixed that .. so now my launcher includes all the same jar files in the commandline as the officiallauncher.. I figure that would get it working, but now its a got different error..

its meant to put the base jar file to load up in the startup as .minecraft\versions\1.11.2\1.11.2.jar ..as it is the last inheritedFrom file... instead it was trying to load this...

\.minecraft\versions\1.11.2-LiteLoader1.11.2-1.11.2-forge1.11.2-13.20.0.2226\1.11.2-LiteLoader1.11.2-1.11.2-forge1.11.2-13.20.0.2226.jar

which doesn't exist.. still even after fixing that problem, its now got a totally different error

"---------------------------
Launch Error
---------------------------
Exception in thread "main"
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
"

and I'm at loss as to what the problem is with it now, as the command line args from my launcher and official are pretty similar now... at least another 30 more jar files more than how it was before.. when it was only loading up the jar files from the 1st/2nd version folders...

Notice the uuid and accessToken from premium logins are included so it does work :)

Anyway it will have to wait as I could debugging that for hours and I don't have the time, might look at it next week though, i guess some progress has been made on it either way :) Just a few more fixes away from getting it working again I'm sure now, though looking at the codebase again it really is a mess.. and now I remember why it had abandoned it :)

Can't get it working without fixing the bugs in the launcher, the issue seems to be in in the newer 1.11 releases mojang changed some layout in the json data, it fails to see which library files to download or load up on startup..

So pretty big difference on the number of jar files it is missing on the launch command for my own launcher.

Like I said before though my mclauncher is pretty much abondonware right now. So only older mc releases will launch properly... also even if I fixed this issue of it not reading the newer json files and got it launching mc.. it still has the problem of not authenticating a legit account with mojang servers to get a valid access token and that might just impossible to fix now.

For me, since 7D2D was getting bigger, Minecrafts seems to become 2nd place for Koolio.

Yeh that is true I did start spending more time playing on that game and working on the kz 7dtd server, still it was always 2nd to the minecraft community of this server really.

I liked his portable Launcher(the one and only real portable launcher on the earth)

Thanks, I think most software/games should be developed with end user portability in mind.. and crossplatform if possible... it gives the end user more control to do things the way they want to without being restricted to the limited design of said application. Most developers solve the portability issue with just storing all your save/personalization etc files in a cloud ie there servers.. which only solves one part of problem and is not always what it is wanted by the end user anyway. Because it still leaves things to be annoyingly difficult for the end user to have true portability with the app itself etc.

I was another person and it was another time. I am planning to reacitive some of my friends. But they arenīt playing something at all. Hope i can reactivate them and having some next years of minecraft-feelings.

Well good luck with that, you might be a little disappointed  :)

Well its been a while since I looked at the project at least 2years.. And I am aware that parts of it no longer work like it used to due to Mojang changing some of the way they do  account authentication. It does seem to launch and download newer minecraft versions fine-atleast last time I tried, and so long as authentication is off it seems to run them... but adding custom mods is broken as it seems newer mods now need to pull in extra library files aswel..and this launcher was never updated to support that.

Anyway  I haven't really followed minecraft updates in a long time so I'm not sure if those changes were big or small.. and the time to find out and fix that might not be worth it or even possible.

Still it's annoying as I did prefer my own launcher way more than mojangs, but I really don't think there would be much point in updating it now.. its not known or used by many people, and I have other projects to be getting on with.

So to answer your question probably not sadly, it is I guess abandonware now.... done as hobby project at time when I played the game and needed a launcher that just worked better.

Hey Lightah.. nice of you to share that.

If you didn't have any posts on the forum I probably wouldn't have remembered you as much, though I'd recognize your name for sure :)

It maybe unsurprising but the players I remember the most (who I didn't talk to as much) were usually the ones that caused some drama or trouble and had arguments with other players etc  ...only because I'd be more involved in those things, while most players on the server that didn't really need much help from me are probably not as known as much unless you mentioned more about what you built, town or certain events etc... Still I know for sure most enjoyed the server, contributed to the map building history, read and said stuff in the chat at the time, made new friends and saw things that will stay with them in that hazy nostalgia of a time and place they were part of in some way, so thank you for being a part that KZ experience.

And yeh ytsens builds were really good, he set some high standards for players to look upto in building among a few others aswel, I spent considerable time on the server he used to play on before starting Kraftzone and then getting him on here, as they say its not the land or place its the certain kind of people that make a place great, and those sorts of people are few and far between and hard to find these days.

It was a long time ago and Kraftzone has a special place in my heart.

#metoo  :P If KZ didn't rapture your mind and plant memories that you can remember in the future with whatever happens in life (and maybe it might help to have those good memories in ways you don't expect or understand now).. then you missed something special and you didn't.

hey salil long time man.. Thanks for the offer I have a server for it and its all setup, its just my preference to run it every one in a while now or whenever someone wants to go on it. Think only a few people actually hopped on it over the holidays anyway. So its not really a server that needs to be up all the time.

"It's been running since 2013 and I totally forgot about it." - Said no bit/altcoin miner ever :D

Hope all you are all doing well !!!

I'm putting up the minecraft server for the holidays, bit like old times seeing as the server was started in the December holidays way back in 2012. So keeping in tradition it's back to where things were left off at the last time the server was up. The minecraft server version is 1.11 (mc.kraftzone.net:25565), hopefully that is fine.

It will be running until just after the new year so hop on anytime during then for some weee nostalgia.

The maps are rendering again at http://map.kraftzone.net:8222 so you can find your old builds (Making this post a little early so expect most the maps will be rendered before Christmas, I forgot how long it takes rendering given the size of them all)

And just to make it easier to teleport to your old builds (as I don't remember the all custom commands/warps that were setup for things anymore) all players can now use  '/mv list' to show all the world map names and '/mv tp <worldname>' to teleport to it. Also you can use '/tele x y z'  with the exact coordinates to get to things.

/ewarp list - Most the warps listed here
/xmas - ie this place...

With that have a Happy Christmas and Great New Year everyone.

I hear you guys.. it really has gone no where

Problem with the site is that yes its very minecraft ..still hard to really change that when you have no idea what to change it to yet which is why I kinda leave it.  Though I have been looking at  newer forums to use in the future to replace it with... but to me it would be silly to remove what the website looks like now when there is no real new content or direction to replace it with and archive the current forum/wiki/gallery etc..

Quote
But this fourm is so much minecraft, in which i dont mind but it does kind of leave off a broken kind of vibe that you know theres stuff going on otherwise

yeh, kraftzone is left off at minecraft, but everytime the idea of replacing the site with something new and fresh, the problem becomes what is kraftzone... and who would use it and why.. its like i setup the kz discord server.. it rarely gets used by anyone... there no real community for it and its not really based around anything anymore that does bring people to it.  personally i don't care for discord.. i'm more inclined to have a kraftzone have its own like better shoutbox/irc like chat built into the site, with a newer forum and site.. but even if that was all done.. and the current stuff archived out of sight but still accessible.. what should kraftzone website be and look like, and most importantly what would be about.. its not gaming development (programming, art, 3d etc) cus I don't think anyone here currently is into it at any level even though i am. And its not really about games as no one really talks about other games here. So alot of it just rests on me completing other things and circling back to kraftzone and redoing the site for that purpose..

Anyway still don't really have much intention to run a game server for other games either though its been suggested a number of times by people who played on the mc/rust/7dtd/ark servers or want me to run a server for whatever new game .. though I should say that I have been thinking of putting the kz minecraft server up in december to the end of year just as tradition to old times.

Still as far as running a game server the intention is still to reboot kraftzone with its own game... but i'm honestly just slow at it, its a learning thing, motivation thing, and haven't been focused on it that much either these past few months... I know I had the snowdenhail game up for a while for testing, that got put on hold when the developer behind the voxel codebase was busy with other things over the summer. He's now doing a bit more on it again actually, so I'll probably get back to working that project again, it was kinda left off at the point where floating blocks would collapse, and I had some code to make that work for buildings using an algorithm.. but there were bugs and I was at a roadblock as to how to fix it.. the problem was with the voxel engine itself due to the way it was optimized.. it was calculating mesh updates and colliders at different times causing weird things to happen which was frustrating me in trying to resolve it, so it got put on hold.

I started another less ambitious (lol that's what I told myself ) mobile/pc game taking some of the work I had done on snowdenhail and that made some progress (it was going to end up a bit like Diep.io ofc later ideas came up like adding elements of 'ftl' (faster than light)  on it... even took it to a local gamedev meet up to show it off, it got some good feedback.. but then I turned to working on the multiplayer and during august I had managed to gain access the unity's server.dll  which isn't publicly released yet... however after using that for the multiplayer backend of the newer project, another road block was hit in the way I wanted to use it. When I asked unity about making some changes to closed source code that would allow me to use the server.dll without it breaking my server frontend gui.. they didn't want to bother (due to it having to support different os platforms), and being closed source I couldn't just make the changes myself.. its annoying because it killed my motivation to use that for the project even though I was  beta testing it for them..is always a work around for these things but it wasn't what I wanted.. so I'm still looking at other networking api's to use for the mulitplayer.

And the past few months I've just been busy with other things ..one of being looking for a new job, interviews, etc which just sucks some time on doing your own things.. to the point where just playing a game is about as much as I want to do.. so if you ever see me on teamspeak playing other games with the peeps on there.. well y'know where that free time is going... its not working on useful projects I guess :/

I will be getting back to it soon though already have this past week actually.. oh yeah and the other reason not much gamedev work progress is that unity 2017.2 and 2017.3 have been plagued with bugs that for some reason I just keep hitting the worst ones.. lol I did end up winning a freaking tshirt for reporting all these damn bugs so that was ok I guess :) .. but not so much progress on any of my game. For game studio's they tend to stick to one released version and never upgrade until the game is done, me I like to try out the new features of newer releases which is really a problem when they don't get the bugs fixed..so starting next week unity 2017.3 b11 should be out and that should fix the last few bugs I had, and then I can get back to it again and just stick to using 2017.3 until I actually make some more progress on a game :)

Kraftzone not so much the server (even though it was the greatest out there when I played Minecraft I meant "kraftzone") but the community is what I miss, the players that created it, the havoc that was caused, the ability to hop on and play for hours, meeting new people, seeings friends names pop up when the connected is what I miss. I know some of these people are long gone now but the memories still live. But at this point I miss the hobby.. Having something there, that was always there and so welcoming is what I miss, until the darker and slower days of Kz there was never a dull moment.

yeh I miss it aswel.. it was fun, I have no idea what the future is and if kz will ever have a community like that again or a game that enables it.. but keeping the dream alive is where its at right now.

Kraftzone was a big thing for me since I was like 12 I believe, 6 years and I'm still typing on these pages. Going back and reading my ridiculous posts and Bob adventures is so entertaining and is what this server is built upon. I'm not asking for a miracle because we've already got it. We just have to do something with it.

I'm not sure if I ever brought it up but Bob the character /thread was pretty funny, I've had ideas about bob adventures as a game before.. how I thought about it was that you play another character (character creation thing/name etc)  who has been screwed over by Bob in someway, and its really your adventure in the game trying to track down this Bob character, who's having his own adventure, probably using your identity for things and causing you all kinds of trouble as you deal with all of Bobs shit and the number of bad guys after you or protecting Bob.. thinking of it top down shooter..

if you had other ideas, or want to contribute ideas, mood boards, art styles etc of how it could look then by all means.

Hell my biggest problem is for any of these games I'm doing is getting artwork done, things like gfx for things, what sort of item pickups to have etc..how things should look... its something I'm not that good at it, so is many areas I would gladly take on third party help and maybe setup another forum board for it.. but I kinda feel like most you those who still come to check kz website aren't really into that sort of thing, but who knows?

Quote
or run a video game forums of our own?

I had an idea of starting a itch.io/tech/gaming website a while back.. it somewhat rests on a specific domain name coming up for sale... this domain name squatter who has done nothing at all with the name for years and renewed it again a few months ago...still I've been learning  asp.net/core2.0 as I'm wanting to use that for the backend...either for that or kz new website.

Anyway yeh always doing things, its just nothing that is directly improving kz right now.

I'll take your cat picture pepsi, and show you this gif video of this silly bengal cat (sisters cat) I had to look after a while back

the question you have to ask is how long do you think he held onto that shelf like that hehe :D

Well looks like ^^^ that's all cleared up then, sheepman really gets into things and he don't hold back :D sheepman you ok man? you been really throwing things up on kz history and getting things off your chest lately.

As for the mess of the spawn area, I wasn't aware of it so its good you mentioned it woombo. Because I might have removed the older world backups and replaced them with the newer backups I did late last month. So I'll be sure the keep the older backups of the worlds aswel.. but  if it was from ""said it was done on 7/30 so about ten days ago. "" then I think its fine as I backed it up before that date, and I did mention in the shoutbox that was it was going down end of the month, so sheepman was probably just blowing off some steam :D

Strangely it seems the server is up still though, which it shouldn't be... I've been away all week and figured it would be offline now as it was meant to expire end of last month, I guess it might still have another month to go that was already paid for ,I'll have to check now.

In anycase I don't see the point in the time to do any restore on it as it wasn't even meant to be online right now. ..which is actually good I might have another use for server which I didnt think I would when I cancelled it.... I finally got around to adding the start of a multiplayer implementation in a new game I've been working on, I'll post about it that later sometime when its a bit more complete.

Hi matti ..long time no speak

the server has been up half the year, but its probably going down anytime this month as I cancelled the server hosting for it last month.. just not being used by me or anyone else.

I'm sure I'll put it back up another time, maybe for a week or holiday period.. no idea.. its just the game is dead I don't play it, others don't or if they do they play on more active servers.. I'm fine with it, but if you want to check out the old stuff I'd do it now before it goes down.

in the past kz used to run 2 minecraft servers and 2 bungeecord proxies aswel as bunch of other scripts and plugins to make the whole cracked and premium thing work seamlessly for premium players while also allowing cracked players to get on the server in a way that didn't require premium players to login onto the server aswel.

It was a extra setup to maintain, and given plugins break and things change aswel as the time to fix it all.. I just downsized it, so its just 1 mc server running and its premium only now.

Maybe if enough cracked players want I could find some login plugin to allow cracked and force everyone to login again. Probably just easy to borrow or buy a premium account from someone now though.
